The Taber Times

The Taber Times website was the last website I created while employed at TriCube Media(Opens in new window). It was designed and developed by myself and Jace Forsyth(Opens in new window). At the time of release the website featured a customized, structured design and was developed using WordPress. In addition, it was the first website I developed from a mobile-first standpoint.

The plan was to use the design and developments for 8 different Alberta Newspaper Group websites across the Canadian prairies. For this purpose a parent theme was created, which boasted a handful of customized functions such as a navigation system, thematically controlled social networking icons and links, and a gallery with lightbox functionality. Further, a custom weather module was created that automatically pulled weather data from Environment Canada. The weather module would then automatically associate a weather themed icon with the state of the weather.
After the framework of the parent theme was established, child themes were created to control secondary elements such as colours and logos for each website. Apart from The Taber Times, the theme was applied to the following newspapers:
